Accessibility statement for Teddington and Alstone Parish Council

This website is run by Teddington and Alstone Parish Council. We want as many people as possible to be able to use this website. For example, that means you should be able to:

  • change colours, contrast levels and fonts
  • zoom in up to 300% without the text spilling off the screen
  • navigate most of the website using just a keyboard
  • navigate most of the website using speech recognition software
  • listen to most of the website using a screen reader (including the most recent versions of JAWS, NVDA and VoiceOver)

We’ve also made the website text as simple as possible to understand.

Ability Net https://abilitynet.org.uk/  has advice on making your device easier to use if you have a disability.

How accessible this website is

We know some parts of this website may not be fully accessible. The website was tested on 15 July 2020 using free software which identified some issues such as:

  • the text will not flow in a single column when you change the size of the browser window
  • you cannot modify the line height or spacing of text
  • most older PDFs are not fully accessible to screen reader software

What to do if you can’t access parts of this website

If you need information on this website in a different format please email teddingtonpc@gmail.com

Or contact the Parish Clerk, David Roscoe, by phone. Tel: 07950118355

Enforcement procedure

Enforcement procedure - The Equality and Human Rights Commission (EHRC) is responsible for enforcing the Public Sector Bodies (Websites and Mobile Applications) (No.2) Accessibility Regulations 2018 (the ‘accessibility regulations’). If you’re not happy with how we respond to your complaint, contact the Equality Advisory and Support Service (EASS)  https://www.equalityadvisoryservice.com/

Technical information about the accessibility of our documents

Teddington and Alstone Parish Council is committed to making our documents accessible, in accordance with the Public Sector Bodies (Websites and Mobile Applications) (No. 2) Accessibility Regulations 2018.

Compliance status

The website is partially compliant with WCAG 2.1AA standard due to non-compliances and exemptions.

Disproportionate burden

There are issues which would be a disproportionate burden for the Parish Council to fix right now. We’ve assessed the cost of fixing the issues and the cost of adding interactive assistive tools. We believe that making changes to the website now would be a Disproportionate Burden within the meaning of the Accessibility Regulations. We will make another assessment in a year’s time.

Content that’s not within the scope of the accessibility regulations

Many of our older PDFs and Word documents don’t meet accessibility standards - for example, they may not be structured so they’re accessible to a screen reader. The accessibility regulations don’t require us to fix PDFs or other documents published before 23 September 2018 if they’re not essential to providing our services. Any new PDFs or Word documents we publish will meet accessibility standards.
